THE EFFORT OF APPLYING CHARACTER EDUCATION

Sultra, Chaneltimur.com – Schools as educational institutions are an important resource. While evaluating the objectives, it is very important to develop a curriculum that clearly includes character education.

Character education is value, character, and moral. The aims of this character to develop the ability of all school members to make good and bad decisions, exemplary, maintain what is good and realize that goodness in everyday life wholeheartedly.

The importance of character education for the Indonesian people must be instilled from an early age in all Indonesian people. Good character education has several important requirements and indicators that must be achieved for the realization of a society with good character. The Indonesian Ministry of National Education has formulated 18 values ​​that are instilled in Indonesian citizens, especially students, in an effort to build and strengthen the nation’s character, there are:
1. (Religious) Religious nature can be done by being obedient in carrying out the teachings of the religion he adheres to, being tolerant of the implementation of worship of other religions, and living in harmony with adherents of other religions. A daily example that can be applied is to perform the Dhuha prayer and read the Koran before starting lessons or other worship according to the religion adhered to by students.
2. (Honest) By being an honest person, we will make ourselves as someone who can always be trusted in any case. Honest behavior in everyday life can be applied anywhere, like not cheating on assignments or in tests, and always being open to both parents.
3. (Tolerance) We live in a “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” country, so it is very important to have tolerance for fellow Indonesians. Examples in everyday behavior are not forcing one’s own opinion above the interests of the group.
4. (Discipline) With the disciplinary nature of the community can show orderly behavior and obey various provisions and regulations. An everyday example that we can do is to obey the rules on how to dress politely at school.
5. (Hard Work) Indonesian people have high enthusiasm and hard work in whatever they do. The nature of hard work can be shown by always being serious and earnest in overcoming various obstacles and completing tasks as well as possible.
6. (Creative) In this era of globalization, creative thinking is needed. Therefore, we must be able to think outside the box so that we are able to produce works that are innovative and useful for many people.
7. (Independent) Humans must be able to do anything on their own so that we are not easily dependent on others to complete tasks. Examples in everyday behavior are being able to carry out tasks on their own if they can still be done alone.
8. (Democratic) Indonesian society must have a democratic personality. A simple example that we can do is to balance rights and obligations, both for ourselves and for others.
9. (Curiosity) With deep curiosity aroused, we always want to know more about everything we have and can learn. An example that we can do is to continuously study and be diligent in gaining good knowledge.
10. (National Spirit) The attitude of the national spirit can be shown by always placing the interests of the Indonesian nation and state above personal interests. For example creating any achievements, etc
11. (Love the Motherland) We can show our love for the homeland by acting and behaving that shows a sense of loyalty, high appreciation for the language, physical, social, cultural, economic and political environment of the nation, such as by practicing the values ​​of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution in everyday life. , and always obey the existing regulations.
12. (Rewarding) Achievements
The attitude of appreciating achievement must be shown both for personal achievement and for others. A simple example that we can do is to give praise to others for the victories or achievements they have achieved.
13. (Friendly/Communicative) We will definitely need other people in all our affairs, so it is very important for people to always be friendly in friendship and communicative to anyone. An example of what we can do is to always be friendly and polite to parents, friends and neighbors.
14. (Peaceful Love) Attitudes and actions that encourage students to produce something useful for society, recognize, and respect the success of others. Examples in daily behavior are not making hate speech, not bullying.
15. (Likes to Read) The attitude of reading will create a society with smart thinking and always open to knowledge.
16. (Care for the Environment) The attitude of caring for the environment can be shown by always protecting the environment we live in and always repairing the damage to the environment in the community. Daily examples that we can do are throw garbage in its place, and always clean the school environment and its surroundings
17. (Social Care) The attitude of social care is very important for the people of Indonesia. This can be shown in actions that always want to help other people and communities in need.
18. (Responsibility) Being responsible for all the actions and work we do is an obligation to us, the community, the environment, the country and God Almighty. An example that we can apply is to always be trustworthy in the things we do as well as possible, etc.
Efforts that can be made in implementing character education in schools include:
Implement the K3 program (Cleanliness, Beauty and Order) so that it becomes a school culture that is emphasized in practice. For example, clean Friday.

The teacher gets used to managing the class before starting the learning process by arranging, observing, etc.
Teachers must be good role models for their students both in speech and behavior. Being able to give good real examples and prioritizing morals that can ultimately builds the character of students.
Teachers must try to be friends and friends to confide in students, so that students volunteer to complain about the problems they feel.
The teacher must integrate the subject matter taught with the existing character values.

Integrating character values ​​with activities programmed by the school in order to continue to instill and grow character values.
The teacher tries to give all students the courage to express their opinions in class, through discussion activities and democratic decision-making.
Schools always hold flag ceremony activities in an orderly and wise manner as programmed to instill and cultivate character values.

Character education leads a person to become an individual who has the best mindset and attitude in dealing with various situations. In addition, students are also expected to be able to live independent lives by having truth values and being accountable. So that instilling moral values, courtesy, and ethics to students is very important so that later the creation of the next generation of the nation who has strong character and noble character.
